A well-established building services contractor based in Bridgend is looking to hire a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing team. You will be instrumental in leading electrical design and installation coordination on a wide range of commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects. This is a hands-on role requiring close collaboration with project managers, site teams, and clients to ensure smooth delivery from design through to installation and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Lead electrical design development tailored to contractor project delivery, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security systems
Prepare and review technical drawings, design calculations, and installation specifications to support site teams
Liaise directly with site engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation issues on site
Ensure compliance with UK wiring regulations (BS 7671), building regulations, and health & safety standards
Manage project timelines and communicate progress effectively with clients and internal teams
Support tendering and value engineering exercises by providing technical input
Mentor junior electrical engineers and provide technical guidance
Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery and resolve clashes
Conduct site visits to verify design implementation and troubleshoot issues
Candidate Requirements
Degree qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (CIBSE, IET, or equivalent)
Minimum 5+ years’ experience in electrical design within a building services contracting environment or contractor-focused consultancy
Practical understanding of electrical installation processes and site coordination
Strong knowledge of BS 7671, UK building regulations, and CDM regulations
Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux, or similar)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with site teams and clients
Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple projects
Proactive problem solver with a hands-on approach
