Job Description

About the Role

We’re looking for a Building Services Design Engineer to join a well-established, full-service design and build contractor specialising in Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health engineering. The company is based in Cirencester and offers an end-to-end service — from initial concept and design, through procurement and installation, to testing, commissioning, and long-term maintenance — with a strong emphasis on low-carbon and renewable energy solutions.

Why This Role Matters

Joining this business means working for a firm with a proven national footprint — its project experience spans sectors such as commercial, industrial, hospitality, education, and residential.
Unlike smaller consultancies, you’ll have the chance to be involved in real, large-scale projects, from feasibility right through to commissioning, while contributing to sustainable, low-carbon engineering innovation.
The leadership team is seasoned: the Design Director is a Chartered building services engineer and Low Carbon Energy Assessor, with two decades of experience.
Meanwhile, the firm is committed to staff development, offering both academic training and hands-on mentoring.
There’s a strong company culture of care — both for quality of delivery and the environment. Their environmental policy reflects a commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability, and minimising waste.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the design of HVAC and other building services systems, from concept through to delivery — including surveying, detailed design, commissioning, and site inspections
  • Take real ownership of projects (with support from the Project Director), integrating into a multi-disciplinary team
  • Work across a variety of sectors: commercial, retail, industrial, and residential
  • Collaborate with other MEP disciplines, ensuring design is coordinated and aligned with sustainability goals
  • Participate in design team meetings, coordinate with clients, and represent the technical team externally
  • Apply your knowledge of building regulations, particularly Part L, to deliver low-carbon, compliant systems
  • Use design software to produce working and as-built drawings, performance specifications, and energy calculations (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, OpenBuildings or similar)
  • Produce and present energy analyses, lifecycle costing, and sustainability assessments
  • Help grow the business, bringing in new ideas and ambition for development and innovation

Who You Are

  • Chartered engineer, or qualified to HND / HNC level in Building Services Engineering, with post-qualification experience in UK construction
  • Strong track record designing HVAC or related systems for real-world buildings
  • Confident working in a “design and build” environment, with an understanding of the full project cycle
  • Solid grasp of other disciplines (MEP) and sustainability frameworks like BREEAM
  • Excellent communicator, with strong interpersonal and influencing skills — able to engage clients and internal teams
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and design tools (AutoCAD, preferably Revit)
  • Familiar with low-carbon engineering and building regulations (especially Part L)
  • Proactive, ambitious, and driven — you’re looking for a role where you can make a long-term impact and grow with the company

What’s in It for You

  • A supportive, growth-oriented working environment: the company really invests in its people
  • Meaningful, sustainable work: projects often include renewable and low-carbon systems
  • Exposure to a wide variety of sectors, giving you a diverse and challenging portfolio
  • The opportunity to grow professionally and influence both technical and commercial strategy
  • Based in Cirencester — a historic, vibrant Cotswold town, offering a strong quality of life and good connectivity
