Building Physics Engineer – Manchester
📍 Manchester | 💼 Full-Time | 💰 Salary: DOE

We are seeking a Building Physics Engineer to join our busy Manchester office. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and proactive individual to help shape sustainable, high-performance buildings across the UK. You will work closely with M&E engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions that improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

The Role

As a Building Physics Engineer, you will contribute to a range of projects, providing expertise in energy modelling, building simulation, and sustainability design. You will be involved in early-stage design, compliance assessments, and performance analysis, helping to deliver buildings that meet and exceed regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct energy modelling and building simulations.
  • Complete projects for Part L compliance, CIBSE TM59/52, AD O compliance, EPCs, CIBSE TM54 operational energy, and SAP assessments.
  • Advise on passive design strategies during early design stages.
  • Collaborate with design teams, statutory authorities, and contractors.
  • Support marketing and business development initiatives.
  • Prepare clear, detailed technical reports.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proficient in IES VE (Model IT, ApacheSim, VistaPro, MacroFlo, VE Compliance).
  • Proven experience in building physics, energy modelling, and building simulation.
  • Knowledge of Part L compliance, EPCs, CIBSE TM59/52 overheating analysis, and related regulations.
  • Strong communication, research, and analytical skills.
  • Proactive and capable of taking ownership of projects.
  • Motivated to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment.
  • Understanding of UK Building Regulations, energy codes, and planning requirements.
Desirable (non-essential) Skills:
  • Mechanical building services knowledge.
  • HVAC system modelling, components, and controls experience.
  • SAP methodology and assessment experience.
  • IES accreditation.
  • OCDEA / LCC / LCEA qualifications.
  • Degree in Building Physics or related engineering discipline.
  • Daylighting simulation experience.
  • Knowledge of BREEAM, WELL, or other sustainable assessment methods.
