Design Manger - Swansea
An opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join a Tier One Contractor on a permanent basis. To manage and co-ordinate the design of complex and large value projects from tender stage through to the completion of construction stage design information. To utilise construction knowledge and experience to develop innovative and cost effective design solutions in conjunction with the design team, apply value engineering principles to ensure best value for all parties, and ensure an effective construction phase by applying an understanding of site management practices, interface management, risks, costs and co-ordination.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of undertaking design management activities at both tender and construction stages. This experience will include working on single stage, two stage and negotiated contracts across a range of sectors including education (schools, further and higher), health, commercial, residential, accommodation, retail and industrial.
Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with clients during early concept stages; manage expectations of the project through regular communication and discussions regarding requirements and specifications;
- Identify and check contents of Client information, develop Contractors Proposals, qualifications list, design information and marketing documentation for the tender and then be able to deliver compliant designs within these parameters;
- Manage relationships across the project team - with the client, professional team (consultants) and subcontractors;
- Review any subcontract enquiries and documentation to ensure alignment with agreed design philosophy;
- Review the design on an ongoing basis, identify potential interface problems & construction sequencing/buildability and resolve with the design team and subcontractors.
Requirements:
- Competent user of MS packages e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Teams (essential);
- Experience of Powerproject or similar (desirable);
- Competent user of Collaborative platforms such as Asite, 4Projects (essential);
- Experience of 3D design management (BIM) and digital software eg. REVIT, NAVIS, AutoCAD, Tekla (essential)
- Appreciation of current Building Regulations, WHTM’s, HBN’s (essential);
- Knowledge of Fire Code compliance and Regulations (essential);
- Knowledge of current BREEAM & Sustainability requirements (essential);
- Understanding and coordination of MEP design/systems and their integration within the construction process (essential).
