We have a fantastic opportunity for a recently Graduated Structural or Mechanical Engineer to work in the field of Temporary Engineer, joining our client in Bristol on a full time, permanent basis.
Our client is a privately-owned scaffold and temporary works company that provide expert solutions within the Construction, Civil Engineering and Rail sectors. The business has enjoyed great success and are proud to say that 80% of their work is based on repeat business or referrals. They have provided recent design and installation for companies such as Highways England, Network Rail, Skanska and Balfour Beatty to name a few.
The business is now looking ahead to the future of the company and have an impressive growth plan, beginning with the recruitment of a Graduate Engineer to support the technical department and develop their personal skill set. You will be entering in a design and project management role whilst under the mentorship and guidance of a Senior Engineer.
Responsibilities include:
Temporary Works Design
Produce temporary works designs, design risk assessments and supporting calculations reports for structures – needling and propping, simple independent scaffold, edge protection
Working on a mix of commercial and industrial projects throughout the UK
Work to processes and checklists to ensure quality assurance
Survey project sites and gather information required to produce design briefs and drawings
Assist managers and operatives in temporary works design
Project Management
Identify and organise materials and equipment for each assigned project, ensuring timely delivery onto site
Prepare method statements and risk assessments in advance of project start dates, and ensure changes are captured in subsequent revisions
Communicate and liaise with customer site teams to ensure technical and programme issues are dealt with in a timely fashion
Ensure handover certificates, scafftags and permit to load certificates are issued to project site managers
Carry out site inspections
Design office Activity
Continual self-learning through learning programme as agreed with manager
Using software as directed for project management, task management, customer relationship management and time recording
This is a rare role as not only does it offer a diverse design environment but also project management duties not usually found in the structural design sector, in turn providing skills which open up a whole new career path into project management. A sector notoriously hard to break into when coming from a design environment.
