Engineering Manager
Cornwall – Permanent

I have an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to join a privately owned and well thought of developer in Cornwall.


The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the functions and performance of external consultants in relation to development infrastructure, layout and utilities. You will need to provide technical input during the entire pre-development process, including land, planning and design stages. In addition, you will be required to provide ongoing support to our commercial and build team during the construction phase, along with post construction assistance with road and sewer adoptions where applicable.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Establishing good working relationships with site staff and other departments to ensure schemes are constructed as intended and to encourage feedback for inclusion in future schemes to avoid wastage and improve the engineered solutions.
  • Implement new ideas and methods and continue to seek ways of both improving contribution to the organisation’s goals and enhancing the reputation of the company.
  • To facilitate the necessary regulatory approvals needed for the company to achieve its delivery targets including, Building Regulations, Highways, Water & Sewerage Companies, Environment Agency, Warranties and the discharge of relevant Engineering related Planning Conditions.
  • In conjunction with the Design Manager, oversee the appointment of the Development/Design Team of consultants as required for each project and plan and manage the delivery of information to support Planning Applications, Tender and Construction stages of each project.
  • Assist in the management of department workloads and budgets to ensure delivery of information as required at each key development stage.
  • Provide support to the Planning & Technical Director during the acquisition and planning process, providing input into appraisals with identification of site constraints and abnormal development issues to inform decisions on layout design, potential constraints to development and potential risk.
  • Ensuring the timely adoption of completed developments.
  • Ensure that design solutions are the most commercially viable options whilst maintaining compliance with the required regulations and to suit the development programme.



Skills and experience required:
  • Strong communication skills
  • Organised and methodical in your working approach
  • Eye for detail
  • Detailed knowledge of current engineering standards and best practice together with good working relationships with external bodies (i.e NHBC, Highway Authorities, Water & Sewerage Companies)
  • Commercially aware and contractual awareness.
  • Thorough knowledge of programming and critical path analysis in relation to site constraints and development delivery sequences and identification of construction abnormals and site constraints to minimise risk to the business at all stages in the development process.
  • Able to manage multiple project streams at varying stages of progress and prioritise tasks to meet the needs of each project
  • IT proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and Autocad
  • Self-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines.
 

The candidate will have a proven track record working within the house building industry, possessing previous in-house engineering design and / or project management skills.
