A respected multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong UK presence is seeking Mechanical Design Engineers across levels—from early career Engineers through to Principals—to join their Birmingham office. You’ll work on diverse building services projects delivering innovative, sustainable mechanical designs across sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
Engineer Level:
Produce mechanical design calculations, drawings, and specifications for HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and domestic water systems
Collaborate with electrical and sustainability teams to deliver coordinated MEP designs
Support site visits, surveys, and technical reporting
Assist with compliance checks to ensure designs meet UK regulations and client requirements
Develop technical knowledge and participate in CPD activities
Intermediate/Senior Level:
Lead design packages and manage technical deliverables on medium to large projects
Mentor junior engineers and review design work
Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and engage with clients and contractors
Apply sustainable design principles and low-carbon technologies
Oversee project documentation, specifications, and design risk assessments
Principal Level:
Lead mechanical design strategy and business development initiatives
Manage complex, high-value projects from concept to completion
Drive innovation, sustainability, and quality across mechanical engineering outputs
Lead and develop engineering teams, providing technical leadership and mentorship
Build and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to growth opportunities
Candidate Requirements
Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent)
Experience varies by level:
Engineer: 0–3 years
Intermediate/Senior: 3–8+ years
Principal: 8+ years with proven leadership and project management experience
Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services systems and UK regulations
Proficient in design software such as Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD or similar
Chartered status or working towards chartership preferred, especially at Senior and Principal levels
Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
