Are you an experienced Structural Engineer who is not only technically adept but also commercially astute? We are looking for someone to head up a Structural team for a large multidisciplinary consultancy which has recently set up a regional office.
This person will be required to ensure timely project delivery as well as the successful development of a structural team. This business has a strong order book and significant confidence in their market position. The role will need someone who can manage and develop a technical team, be responsible for technical delivery, bid writing and has experience in external marketing. Projects are interesting, diverse and challenging; Residential including student, education, logistics, hospitality, commercial and retail
Principal Duties & Main Activities: Technical
• In conjunction with Regional Directors, provide leadership, management and technical quality to the Birmingham structures team relating to structural engineering, consultancy and reporting
• Undertaking design and detailing of Structural engineering schemes, feasibility studies, inspections, surveys and reports
• Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills and experience
• Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment for simulation purposes and to prepare engineering design documents
• Inspecting and supervising site works and undertaking contract administrative duties
• Complying with Health & Safety and CDM Regulations and company Health and Safety management systems and assisting in the promotion of a robust Health & Safety culture in the team and where appropriate in the Company
• Role modelling the highest standards of professional probity, accuracy and delivery of technical projects in accordance with recognised Codes of Practice and Statutory guidance
• Representing the business at project design team meetings and client meetings
Commercial
• In conjunction with Regional Directors, work effectively to deliver and manage the delivery of projects within cost, time, profitability and quality requirements
• In conjunction with Regional Directors, achieve financial targets in specified areas, and contribute to the setting of budgets
• In conjunction with Regional Directors, preparation of fee proposals and bids for discreet project opportunities and Frameworks
• Diligently protect the interests of the business with respect to exposure in project contracts
Managerial and Strategic
• In conjunction with Regional Directors, continuously improve the business processes to ensure that work is profitable and of the right quality and managed appropriately and fostering sound working relationships with the team, other employees and contacts
• In conjunction with Birmingham Directors, manage the recruitment, appraisal, performance, development, morale and motivation of staff within the structures team
• Supervising, mentoring and training members of the team
• Assisting the Directors in delivering the Company Vision and Values and promoting the
Company in all its aspects
• Assisting the Directors in managing multidisciplinary projects and intergroup/ interoffice systems and working relationships and communication
• Working within the Company management systems including Quality Management
System and project management
• Attend and positively contribute to Board and Director meetings through the application of experience, independent thought and alignment with agreed strategy
• Proactively developing business activity by planning, targeting structuring and implementing business plans
• Collaborating with other parts of the business to achieve corporate objectives and initiatives
Business Development
• Actively promote all technical disciplines within the Birmingham office and the wider business to clients, potential clients and others in order to seek project work opportunities
• Working with the Regional Directors, identify and lead business development for structural engineering in the West Midlands from a new client base in accordance with agreed KPIs for new clients and new business
• Working with the Regional Directors, lead business development for structural engineering services in the West Midlands from existing clients, and assisting with business development for the West Midlands region
• Maintaining strong client relations
General
• Representing the business at all times in a manner to bring credit, high reputation, integrity and honesty to its dealings with all its contacts

Qualifications/Experience/ Qualities Required
• Relevant Degree preferred
• Relevant Professional Membership
• Valid driving license preferred
• Complete professional knowledge and an understanding of the construction industry
• Market facing, commercially focused, capable of independent and strategic thinking, an agent of change, a positive role model, operationally capable and centered on delivery
• Capability and experience in managing and performing projects in a fast paced environment
• Proven track record of effective communication skills, both oral and written
